Summit is a "Church with a Mission."
We not only provide spiritual outreach to all people in need, we participate in a wide variety of mission activities locally, nationally and internationally. These activities include local community hunger and housing programs, support to national and international disaster relief, as well as foreign missions and missionaries. Below are some of Summit's activities:

Summit’s Community Meal Program began in 1985.  Members prepare meals and deliver them to the Stafford community and members of our church who would benefit by our assistance.  Over 1,000 meals are prepared each year.  The meals are cooked and delivered the third Saturday of each month.

Rebuilding Together was formerly called Christmas in April.  Since 2001, Summit has had the responsibility of repairing and restoring a home of a Stafford resident.  Usually it involves about 50 Summit members each year working for two days.  A smaller number of members work subsequent days, even months, finishing up the project.

Through tithes and special offerings we support The Gordon-Gayle Fund by offering assistance to community residents through S.E.R.V.E. (Stafford Emergency Relief through Volunteer Efforts of Stafford)   We help needy families with emergency services and money.  We also help SERVE raise money by recycling newspapers.  Every week we donate cans and boxes of food which are placed in the SERVE pantry.

The Heifer Project is a mission we share with Summit’s Education Committee.  Children collect monies for a month and provide animals for those in need.  Instead of providing families with a non-renewable food, Heifer provides a “living loan” of an animal.  Many benefits can come from an animal; for example - milk, eggs, wool, fertilizer, draft power, etc.  Heifer provides food and income-producing animals to resource-poor families in 125 countries.

Christmas White Gift Program provides needy Stafford families with turkeys, cookies, food baskets and gifts.  Items requested are listed on ornaments which are hung on a tree in the narthex, usually the end of November.  Members pick ornaments and buy for the families.  Items are wrapped in white paper and returned to church before Christmas for delivery.

C.C.C., Campus Christian Community, is an ecumenical student group at the University of Mary Washington.  Summit contributes funds to aid in their ministry.  They have taken many trips to Honduras.  In 2005, Shin Fujiyama and a few other CCC students started S.H.H. (Students Helping Honduras) Summit has given funds to enable students to travel there to build homes for families in need and to help out at an orphanage. Summit received recognition from SHH for all our contributions.  A scholarship will be given to a student in Summit’s name as well as a home will be built for a needy family and will be called “Summit.”

Every month we give money to the Presbytery of the James for the missions of the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. in Virginia, like Camp Hanover

For years Summit helped sponsor a Presbyterian Missionary Family in Pakistan.  Due to health reasons, the family recently had to return to the U.S.A.  We hope to shortly find another missionary to assist.

Summit helps support Local, National, and International Disaster Relief.  We not only contribute funds to the Presbyterian Church USA for disaster assistance but also to the Salvation Army.

Massanetta Springs is a camp and conference center located in Harrisonburg, Virginia.  Many of our youth attend camp programs and conferences there. Summit provides funds to help this vibrant ministry.

Throughout the past several years, Summit has supported our troops by preparing Christmas packages with items like socks, contributed school supplies for Iraqi children which the troops have given to schools, filled out USO cards, and given funds for Wreaths Across America.

The first part of each year, the women of our church have shared in Share the Warmth Day.  Blankets, quilts, and cough pillows are created and contributed to Mary Washington Hospital.

Once each month, Summit members travel to Fredericksburg to visit the Presbyterian Group Home.  We give a devotional, help make a craft, and share baked goodies with the residents.  We annually hold a Christmas party where Santa gives gifts to the residents.  This is accompanied with tasty treats and a good old fashioned Christmas carol sing-a-long.

This past year we have contributed furniture, clothing, books, and toys for African Refugee Families.

Contributions of books from Summit's Vacation Bible School went to needy children who attend Olde Forge Junction.  Contributions from our congregation also went to supply Bibles for older students.
