Mission Committee
Elder: Jane Conner
PURPOSE:
We provide spiritual outreach to all people
in need. We operate locally,
nationally, and internationally. Summit is a “Church with a Mission.” We
participate in a wide variety of Mission activities including projects in:
- Local community and national relief and
charitable programs and activities;
- Community hunger programs;
- Community housing missions;
- Evangelism/spiritual outreach;
- Support to foreign missions and missionaries;
- Assistance to other Summit church groups’ missions.
SOME OF SUMMIT'S MISSION ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
- Through this Web page we
reach out to the community.
- People at Summit cook and prepare about 1,000 meals each year. These
meals are cooked and delivered by volunteers from our church. (Community Meals
Program).
- Christmas White Gift Program. In 2004 we supported 22 families with
turkeys, cookies, and gifts for Christmas.
- Each year since 2001, Summit has had responsibility
for repair and restoration of a home in Stafford working with Rebuilding
Through Christmas-in-April. This
has involved about 50 Summit members each year working for one or two days
and a smaller number of members working for subsequent days.
- Summit’s tithes, offerings, contributions and
time support S.E.R.V.E.; Salvation Army; Rebuilding through
Christmas-in-April; Missions of the Presbytery of the James; and the
Campus Christian Community at the University of Mary Washington.
- Other church group support to specific
missions is supported, whenever needed, by the Missions Committee. These have included or currently
include: Christian Education/Sunday School fundraising for the Heifer
Project; support to Youth Mission Trips; support to Presbyterian Women
with group home and other activities.
- Through tithes and special offering
collections we support the Gordon-Gayle Fund which offers assistance to
community residents through S.E.R.V.E. and Salvation Army.
- We provide support to emergency situations for
individuals, families and large groups suffering natural disasters or
personal emergencies.
- We spread God’s word and
carry out Christ’s great commission through outreach to sister churches and
into our neighborhoods. All of our missions projects contain this component
Yea, a man may say,
Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith without thy works,
and I will show thee my faith by my works. (James 2:18)
